Composite pipe pricing:
the costing model, per metre
A GRE or GRP pipe has no list price — it has a build-up. Material cost from diameter and wall construction, machine time from winding and cure by pressure class, a liner multiplier, fittings, hydrotest, packing, SG&A and margin. Pricera models that chain explicitly, tests it on every change, and keeps every quoted metre traceable back to its inputs.
The anatomy of a composite pipe price
Strip a composite pipe price to its parts and you get a chain where every link is a table or a formula — geometry, process and commercial terms in one calculation:
× liner multiplier(resin type)
+ fittings + hydrotest + packing
+ SG&A fees % → cost → + margin % → price
- Material is geometry-driven. Resin and glass consumption per metre comes from diameter × wall matrices — one per product family — with liner resin, structural layers and optional barrier foils costed separately.
- Machine cost is process-driven. Winding and cure time depend on pressure class and line speed; multiply by the press-line rate and you have conversion cost per metre.
- Operations are per-unit adders. Heat treatment, tool cleaning, end fittings, hydrotest, packing — each a priced step, some flat, some dimension-dependent.
- The commercial layer is contract-driven. SG&A allocation, fees and margin percentages applied on cost; plant origin, customer segment and currency change which tables apply.
Where spreadsheet costing models fail
Every manufacturer has this file: decades of tables, nested formulas, plant variants, and exactly one person who understands it. The math is fine — the governance is not:
- Interdependent tables multiply silently. Diameter × wall per product family, cure times per class, plant-specific rates, fitting models — edit one cell and a dozen prices shift with no trace.
- Variants fork the file. Per-plant, per-segment, per-currency copies of the same workbook drift apart until nobody knows which is authoritative.
- Quotes can't be replayed. A price from six months ago can't be explained — which table version, which resin price, which margin was live that day?
Pricera replaces the file without changing the math: the same tables and formulas become a versioned model, reference cases prove every edit reproduces known prices before publish, and each quote pins the exact inputs that produced it.
Model it once. Price every product and component from it.
Dimensional tables, native
Diameter × wall material matrices, cure-time tables, class-dependent rates — governed model tables, not hidden INDEX/MATCH chains.
Assemblies compose models
Fittings are their own costed models. A quote assembles pipe plus fittings, sharing customer, currency and margin terms — every component line keeps its own breakdown.
Multi-plant without file forks
Plant origin is an input, not a workbook copy. Each plant's rates live in one governed table — quote the same spec from any origin and compare the margin.

850 metres for a desalination project — the same scenario shown in the product demo:
Every bar is a named node. Swap the liner type and the multiplier re-prices the line; move production to another plant and the rate tables switch with it; reopen the quote next year and the same inputs replay it to the cent.
Built for the composites value chain
- GRE / GRP pipe manufacturers — filament-wound and centrifugal pipe for water, desalination, oil & gas and marine service, priced per metre from geometry and process.
- Fittings & spool fabricators — elbows, tees, flanges and custom spools costed in nested models that roll into the same quote.
- Lining, coating & wrapping specialists — liner multipliers, surface and spec adders on a shared costing base.
- EPC & distribution — quote pipe, fittings and freight together; plant-origin comparisons without duplicating the model.
